Your Path to Certification: Five Clear Steps

Step 1: Demonstrate Relevant Work Experience

To qualify for a CCB® certification exam, you must demonstrate that you are a Compliance Professional with practical experience in the field. This ensures that candidates bring meaningful, real-world knowledge to the certification process.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • At least one year in a full-time compliance role or 1,500 hours of compliance-related duties within the past two years.
  • Your job responsibilities must align directly with the tasks outlined in the Detailed Content Outline (DCO) provided in your certification handbook.

For students:

If you’ve completed a certificate program from a CCB-accredited university within the last two years, you are exempt from the work experience requirement. However, you must sit for the exam within 12 months of completing your program. A list of approved university programs is available for reference.

When submitting your application, you’ll complete a section verifying your work experience. Remember, CCB staff cannot verify your eligibility on your behalf—you are responsible for accurately reporting your qualifications.

Step 2: Accumulate and Submit Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Applicants need to earn and report at least 20 CEUs approved by CCB to qualify for the exam. These CEUs must:

  • Include at least 10 units from “live” events such as in-person training sessions or real-time web conferences.
  • Be earned within the 12 months prior to your examination date.

Learn more about earning CEUs and how to add them to your account at how to earn and report CEUs.

Step 3: Complete and Submit Your Exam Application

Once you meet the eligibility requirements, the next step is to fill out your Examination Application and pay the associated fee. All applications are submitted online via the official certification portal.

During the application process, you will choose your preferred testing format:

  • Computer-Based Test (CBT) at a PSI testing center
  • Remote Proctored Test (RPT) accessible online through PSI
  • Paper-and-Pencil Exam, available at select SCCE or HCCA events

Proceed with your application through the official channels to ensure proper processing.

Step 4: Schedule Your Exam

After your application is approved, you will receive an eligibility confirmation from CCB, including your exam end date. This confirmation will contain details about your testing window and instructions for scheduling.

You will get an email with your exam date, start time, and reporting instructions, carefully scheduled to accommodate religious or government-recognized holidays specific to your location.

For international candidates, exam appointments are coordinated via email at [email protected], where you can provide your preferred testing location and dates.

Step 5: Take Your Certification Exam

On the exam day, you will have two hours to complete 120 questions. Only 100 of these questions are scored, and the test is administered exclusively in English. Preparation and familiarity with the exam structure are crucial for success.
